My name is Laura and my specialties are English and education. I received a first class honours degree from my time at university where I also obtained my teaching qualification. I’ve since worked in education in both England and The Netherlands – though I can’t speak Dutch!
I have 17 years’ experience of editing and proofreading, most of which has been for academic and other non-fiction material. Other projects have included editing fiction, ghost-writing and developmental editing for published authors. I am an Intermediate-Level Member of CIEP (formerly SfEP).
I’m Eoin, I’ve been proofreading for nearly a year now and I have, over that time, proofread 100,000’s of words. I’m a careful and meticulous proofreader who ensures every text I look over is done to the highest standard.
I have a background in education and teaching, with a Bachelor of Education and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mathematics and Science Education, as well as a Graduate Diploma of Arts. For the past 10 years I have worked as a proofreader/editor of statewide Examination materials (across all subjects), and have been proofreading essays, assignments, curriculum vitaes (CVs) and personal statements.
In addition to working for Bulletproof Documents I’m also a Research Analyst for a maritime research organisation, which involves collating data and proofreading reports. My background is in science and I have a BSc in Biochemistry and an MSc in Immunopharmacology. I spent over ten years in laboratory roles within the pharmaceutical environment, followed by six and a half years in the regulatory field. Responsibilities included gathering data, writing and review laboratory documents, compiling product marketing authorisation applications, and ensuring product packaging text and layouts were correct. In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors, reading and crafting.
I am a native British English speaker with an MA (Hons) in English Literature and Language (University of Glasgow), with Post-Graduates in Librarianship and Teaching in Further Education.
I have industry-recognised qualifications from the SfEP (now the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading, ciep) and the Publishing Training Centre (Merit in Basic Proofreading). I am an intermediate member of CIEP and abide by their code of practice.
I also write and publish fiction as Colette Coen and regularly critique fiction and poetry for a number of published authors.
I have a PhD in postcolonial literatures (French). I am trilingual and have a lifelong passion for literature and languages. I have spent most of my working life in academia, as a lecturer and a learning enabler supporting disabled students at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
I have knowledge of a wide range of subjects in the humanities including law, human rights, psychology, criminology, photography, literature and creative writing amongst others. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, current affairs, swimming and learning Portuguese.
